Invisible Grills for Balconies & Windows in Mumbai & Pune

Quick answer: An invisible grill is a row of thin, high-tension SS316 stainless steel cables (2–3 mm) fixed 2 inches apart in an aluminium track. It is designed to keep children and pets safe on balconies and windows without blocking your view, light or breeze, and it resists rust far better than mild-steel grills. We inspect for free, agree the materials and quality with you, then quote.

More about invisible grills

Invisible grill installation, 34 seconds

What it is and why it matters

Traditional MS (mild steel) box grills rust in Mumbai's salty, humid air, need painting every couple of years, make a flat look like a cage and can trap people inside during a fire. Invisible grills solve all four problems.

Each cable is a 7×7 or 7×19 stranded SS316 wire with a protective nylon coating, pulled tight and locked into a powder-coated aluminium channel that is anchored into your RCC slab or wall. From a few metres away the cables almost disappear, which is why many new towers in Mumbai and Pune prefer them on the facade.

Why families install invisible grills

Safety for children and pets

Tensioned SS316 cables set 2 inches apart stop children and pets from slipping through or climbing out, on balconies, windows and staircases.

The view stays open

The cables are thin and almost disappear from a few steps away, so you keep your view, daylight and breeze. No caged look.

Built for salty, humid air

Genuine SS316 marine-grade wire is made for coastal humidity. There is no painting every few years, unlike mild-steel box grills.

An openable section for emergencies

Unlike a fixed box grill, we can fit an openable or removable section, so you can get out, and AC technicians or fire fighters can get in, when needed.

Fits society rules

Invisible grills do not change the look of the building, which is why many societies that ban box grills accept them.

Stops things falling

Toys, pots and cushions stay on the balcony instead of falling on people or cars below.

Almost no maintenance

Wipe the cables now and then and have the tension checked once a year. That is all it needs.

Works almost anywhere

Balconies, windows, French windows, terraces, duplex voids and staircases, in old buildings and new towers alike.

Invisible Grills FAQs

Are invisible grills safe for children?

For families with kids, we recommend SS316 wire of at least 2 mm with a 2-inch gap, where each tensioned cable holds a heavy load. Do not place furniture near the grill that a child could climb, and get the tension checked once a year under our warranty plan.

Will invisible grills rust in Mumbai?

We recommend genuine SS316 marine-grade wire for sea-facing flats in Mumbai. Cheap SS201 or uncoated wire can show rust spots within a year. Ask the installer to show the grade on the spool.

How long does invisible grill installation take?

A typical 2BHK balcony and windows usually take about a day. Larger terraces or duplexes can take longer, and we agree the timeline in your work order.

Do I need society permission for invisible grills?

Many Mumbai and Pune societies require a simple written NOC for anything fixed to the facade. Because invisible grills do not change the building's look, most societies approve them easily. We give you a drawing and spec sheet to attach to your application.

Can a burglar cut an invisible grill?

Invisible grills are designed mainly for fall protection, not as a burglar bar. A 3 mm SS316 cable needs a heavy-duty cutter and time, so it deters casual entry, but for ground and first floors we recommend pairing it with a door sensor or a stronger grill.

Can I open the invisible grill in an emergency?

On request, we can fit an openable or removable section so that AC technicians, window cleaners or fire fighters can get through. Tell us at the site visit.

What is the gap between invisible grill wires?

The child-safe standard is a 2-inch gap. A 3-inch gap is sometimes used on windows, but for balconies with children or pets we recommend 2 inches.

Which wire thickness should I choose?

A 2 mm or 2.5 mm wire suits most flats. For high floors, wide spans and sea-facing balconies, 3 mm is the stronger choice. We advise you at the inspection.

Do invisible grills stop pigeons?

Not fully. Pigeons can squeeze through a 2-inch gap, so many families add a pigeon net behind the grill. We can fit both together.

Invisible grill or glass railing: which is better?

Invisible grills keep the breeze and the view open and need almost no cleaning, while glass blocks air flow and needs regular cleaning. Many families choose invisible grills for open balconies.

How do I look after invisible grills?

Wipe the cables with a damp cloth now and then, and get the tension checked once a year under our warranty plan.

What is the invisible grill price per sq ft?

It depends on the wire grade and thickness, the total area, the floor height and access. We first inspect your site, then propose and agree with you the materials and the type of quality you need, and quote the price accordingly.

Is an invisible grill safe for cats?

Cats can squeeze through a 2-inch gap. For cats, we recommend adding a fine cat safety net behind the grill.

Can an invisible grill be removed later?

Yes. The tracks can be unscrewed and the small anchor holes filled. If you plan to renovate, tell us first so we can plan it with you.

Are invisible grills allowed in Mumbai and Pune?

Many societies accept invisible grills because they do not change the look of the building, and some ask for a written NOC. Rules on grills are under review: in July 2026 the Bombay High Court asked the State to frame clear rules, so please check your society's current rules. We give you a drawing and specification sheet for any NOC.

Invisible grill or normal MS grill: which is better?

For most flats we recommend an invisible grill: it keeps the view open, resists rust and suits societies that do not allow box grills. A normal MS grill can be stronger against break-ins on lower floors. See our comparison.

Can I add a mosquito net or cloth hanger with an invisible grill?

In most cases, yes. We can fit a pigeon net or mosquito net behind the grill, and a cloth hanger can usually be fixed alongside. We plan this at the inspection.

SS304 or SS316: how do I know the wire is genuine SS316?

We recommend SS316 for Mumbai and for sea-facing or high-rise flats; SS304 can work for some inland Pune flats. Ask to see the grade marked on the wire spool, and make sure the grade is written in your quote.

How long do invisible grills last?

With genuine SS316 wire and a yearly tension check, an invisible grill is built to last for many years. The warranty terms are set out in our written warranty plan and listed in your quote.

What are the disadvantages of an invisible grill?

An invisible grill is designed for fall safety, so it has limits. It is not a burglar bar, pigeons and mosquitoes can pass through a 2-inch gap, cats may need an extra net, it usually costs more than an MS grill on day one, and cheap wire can rust. We recommend genuine SS316 wire, a pigeon or mosquito net where needed, and a yearly tension check.

How much weight can an invisible grill hold?

It depends on the wire grade and thickness, the number of cables, the span and above all how well the track is anchored into RCC. An invisible grill is designed to stop children and pets falling through, not to be climbed on or to hang heavy loads. For wide spans and high floors we recommend 2.5 mm or 3 mm SS316 wire and a yearly tension check.

Nylon or Teflon coated wire: which is better?

The coating gives the cable a smooth, clean finish, but rust resistance comes mainly from the steel underneath. We recommend genuine SS316 wire whichever coating you choose, and we write the wire grade and coating type in your quote. We show you coated samples at the inspection.

Does an invisible grill keep mosquitoes out?

No. An invisible grill is for fall safety, and mosquitoes pass easily through the gaps. If you want both, we can fit a mosquito net (machhar jali) on the window frame, or a pleated or honeycomb door, along with the grill.

What warranty do you give, and what does it cover?

Every job comes with our written warranty plan. The warranty terms are listed in your quote and on the warranty card we hand over, so you know what is covered before you sign the work order.

Can I install an invisible grill in a rented flat?

Yes, if your landlord and society agree. The track is screwed into the wall or slab and can be removed later, leaving small holes that can be filled. For a short stay, a removable balcony safety net may suit you better.

Is an invisible grill safe on high floors?

Invisible grills are commonly fitted on high floors. For high floors, wide spans and windy sites we recommend 3 mm SS316 wire and anchors drilled into RCC, and our trained team works to proper safety guidelines at height.

How do I clean the window glass behind an invisible grill?

Most glass can be cleaned through the gaps with a long-handled squeegee or a cloth on a stick. If you need easier access for cleaning or AC service, tell us at the inspection and we will plan the layout with that in mind.
