Are Invisible Grills Safe for Children and Pets?
By Sushil Shinde, Founder & Installation Head, SafeNest · Updated November 2026
Short answer: Invisible grills are designed to keep children and pets safe when they use SS316 wire of at least 2 mm, a gap of 2 inches or less, tension locks on every cable, and anchors drilled into RCC rather than brick or window frames. Safety comes from these four details, not from the word ‘invisible’.

The four things that make it safe
- Gap of 2 inches (about 5 cm) or less. This is the gap we recommend for homes with toddlers. For cats, ask for a net behind the grill.
- SS316 wire, 2 mm or thicker. Thinner or cheaper wire can corrode from inside its coating and lose strength without you noticing.
- Individual tension locks. Each cable should be tensioned and locked separately, so one loose cable does not loosen the rest.
- RCC anchoring. The aluminium track must be fixed into the concrete slab or beam with stainless steel anchors.
Checks for parents
- Press each cable: it should feel tight like a guitar string, with no sag.
- Keep sofas, planters and stools away from the grill so a child has nothing to climb on.
- Re-check tension once a year, especially after the monsoon. We do this free in the first year.
What invisible grills are not
They are fall protection, not a burglar bar. For ground-floor flats combine them with good locks or a stronger grill.
