Are Invisible Grills and Pigeon Nets Allowed? A Society NOC Guide
By Sushil Shinde, Founder & Installation Head, SafeNest · Updated November 2026

Is covering a balcony allowed in Mumbai, Pune and PCMC?
Fitting an invisible grill or a safety net is common in Mumbai, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, while enclosing a balcony with walls or glass is treated very differently under building rules. Rules and society bye-laws vary, so check with your society before work starts. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
What to include in your application
- Flat number and exact location (balcony / windows / duct).
- Product: SS316 invisible grill, wire thickness, colour of aluminium track; or pigeon net colour.
- A sample photo of a similar installation.
- Installer name, contact and proposed date and time, within society working hours.
- Confirmation that no structural change is made and the facade colour is matched.
We give every customer a spec sheet and sample photo for this. Some new towers have a builder-approved colour and design. Tell us the rule and we will match it.
Rules differ between societies and builders. This page is general guidance, not legal advice. Always follow your own society's bye-laws.
